Workshops ‘Analysis of oral microbiota based on 4 types of diets’, June 5, 2025 Jaktorów
On June 5, 2025 in Jaktorów and Błonie the scientists from our Institute conducted workshops ‘Analysis of oral microbiota based on 4 types of diets’ for over 300 pupils (classes 7-8) from Primary School and Nursery Unit in Jaktórów. The workshop included a demonstration on the biological material (bacterial microbiota) that forms in the oral cavity after consuming sour (pickled cucumbers), salty (salted chips), sweet (Coca-Cola), and bitter (walnuts) ingredients in our diet. Young people learned techniques for pouring bacterial media (food jellies). They also acquired skills in reducing culture and transferring biological material from their oral cavity to a Petri dish with a suitable sugar-rich medium. This medium supports the growth of facultative anaerobes and aerobes found in our oral cavity and periodontal pockets.
The workshops were warmly welcomed by the pupils and teaching staff. As we can see the science can be interesting!
